Sweet and Sour Sauce

A very easy but tasty and pungent sauce goes well on pork tenderloin and chops.
It isn't the type of sauce you would stir your meat into but rather one that is best spooned on as a condiment.
Since this recipe doesn't use cornstarch as a thickener, it take about thirty minutes to reduce to desired consistency. Begin when you put your meat into the oven.Sweet and Sour Saucerecipe easily halved or doubled
1/2 cup sugar1/2 cup ketchup1/2 cup white vinegar1/2 cup water (you can substitute pineapple juice for the water, if desired)
Whisk all ingredients together in a small saucepan and simmer over medium heat until thickened, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.
Additions:Any of the following can be added and heated through at the end of the simmering time.
Sliced bell pepperwell drained pineapple chunkssauteed sugar snap peasdrained water chestnutsMaraschino cherriessliced mushroomsdiced or thinly sliced carrotssliced onions
